How do I get my Captivate to share files with my Computer?

So I have a SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 (captivate) and a firmware version of 2.2. When i plug it into my computer, it charges, and the phone says it's connected, but my computer doesn't read it. I currently have a mac OSX. I want to be able to put music and pictures on my phone, and vica versa. I don't know if I need to download a kies application- i tried one (version 3.0.1.13112_5 i couldn't find any others online) but my "device was not supported by this version". What can I do?

If you have wifi I would trying using ftp to move files both ways. There is an app called eshare ( free on playstore) which makes it quite easy (many others also do this)
