How do I get my nexus 4 to pickup "3g" instead of hspa+?

I get shitty signal on hspa+, and when I check T-Mobile I'm in the area with good coverage almost excellent.. basically that coverage isn't for hspa+, I had a blackberry 9700 which had full bars on hsdpa(3g) and that clearly matches the coverage maps..

You would have to alter the radios but I don't know how. You could also brick your phone permanently or break signal at the very least like that.

You can't do 3G (HSPA) but not 4G (HSPA+).

Yes. Basically, if you get hspa+ you cannot downgrade yourself to just hspa. I think it's because they're technically the same. Hspa+ and hspa are like sisters (or brothers, whatever lol).

T-mobile marketed hspa+ as 4g even though it's technically not even though it is as fast as Lte (Real 4g). It's sort of like a half lie because it's as fast as 4g, but it's still 3g. Except it's 3g in hyper mode.
