how do i get my phone to stop telling me I have yahoo mail

I put the applications on my phone for yahoo mail and signed in now it won't stop sending me a message every time I get a email..
I took it off my front screen ( put it in the little trash basket)..
I push the button and it takes me yahoo but it don't show where you can sign out..Like on a computer..
HELP!! lol

settings/applications/manage applications then find Yahoo and uninstall it.
