Help How do I keep music out of ringtone selection?

I have a bunch of music I put onto my external SD card, however, my phone is now including all of these songs into my list of ringtones. Is there a way to keep this from happening? I read about .nomedia files, so I tried adding a .noringtone and .noringtones file. Those didn't work (figured I might as well try).

I am currently running Android 4.4 Kitkat. I am not rooted and would prefer to avoid rooting.

Figured it out. I am using Double Twist to put my music onto my phone, but it had put it in the wrong location. Now, the music is in the Double Twist app folder where the phone is not scanning for ringtones.
