How do I lock on the exposure & focus on the camera? It doesn't stay locked.

When I press and hold the screen, it shows the focus & exposure circle "lock", but as soon as I release it, the "locked" exposure/focus is lost. Seems like a software issue, but it is frustrating when trying to lock the exposure, which I would use a lot (if I could get it to work).
