Help How do I open a .txt file in my android browser

DaneClark

When I click on a Web link that is a .txt file in my android browser, it saves the .txt to my phones hard drive. How do I make it show the .txt file in my browser window like it would in Internet Explorer?

Use your file manager what ever one you have, the file will most likely be in downloads and click on the text file to open it. Right after you download it you should get a notice, just tap on it to open. Hope that helps.

If you click and hold on the .txt file does the pop up menu allow you to open it in new tab? Alternatively you can try to copy the link and manually enter it in the URL area to make sure the browser can display it.
Is your phone not able to open txt files outside of the browser?

Try typing in file:/// into your browser, that should open a navigation page where you'll have to dig into your phone's file structure to find those downloaded txt files. (On my phone file:///storage/emulated/Download will take me to my browser's Download directory.)
But this won't give you any ability to do much at all with the text file itself (edit, rename, etc.), using a browser for this is basically just a viewing. A file manager app really is more versatile and will give you more options.

My file manager tried to make me install office, and will not let me use the browser to open the file. Is there a way to do with with zero install? Can I use chrome/integrated browser to find the file and open it on my local filesystem?
