How do I stop Gmail social notifications

I have been getting Gmail notifications on my Droid Turbo that are actually ads for stuff I have no interest in.

I checked my Gmail settings on the phone and Notifications is confirmed disabled.

The ads show up on the Social tab as opposed to the Primary tab.

Does anyone know how to stop the notifications?

NoRoot Firewall at the play$tore can be configured to do this by denying access to your device by the ad site.

Great little app...

i just installed this and w/o doing anything else, just sat and watched it to see what is going on behind the scenes by apps that "are not in use'.

Facebook came up first, then messenger,
then Craigslist....

now none of these should be doing anything unless i want them up and running.
this is precisely why i have a macro that turns off the internet when the screen is locked.

i have observed many times how much battery power is wasted overnight while the phone is "not in use"..... with the internet blocked totally, ie, it is OFF the phone will idle thru the night on 4% or less.

if i leave the macro turned off, meaning the internet has access all night, the phone looses 50% of its' battery life.... that is just plumb insane.

Yes it's amazing the unwanted activity going on in the background you can see with this little app.

If I don't like the activity, I can disable it with this app.

  1. Go to your folder list.
  2. Tap the Settings button and select the Notifications section.
  3. Select the Filter section.
  4. Select Social Networks.
  5. Move the slider to the ON position.
