How do I stop the update notification without rooting?

I'm using a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 & the update already bricked 1 phone, I don't care to take a chance on another. I don't want to install the update but the notification won't stop. Apparently Sprint has done something to prevent the user from turning the notification off. The Note 2 forum has instructions for stopping the notification by rooting but I don't want to root. I've heard all about how great it is & how easy it is but I'm just not comfortable taking that chance. So does anybody know if there is a way to disable the update notification without rooting?

It's actually very simple to root - you use adb (on your computer - you can download it free from Google) to push the file su to the phone, then download a superuser app. Making a play list is more difficult.

I appreciate the information but you lost me at adb & again at su!
