How do I stop Yahoo Mail from automatically checking my mail all the time?

Hi everybody, I hope I am asking this in the right place. I only recently got my first smartphone (Samsung Xcover), I am still finding out the basics.

I installed a Yahoo Mail app. So far, so good. But I only want it to sync/update/check when I open the app, not all the time.

I managed to get rid of the notifications in the notification bar, but I think it is still checking my mail all the time, eating up unnecessary battery life and MB's. I would like the app to not check my mail at all unless I ask it to.

I first tried to go into the app's menu but there's only three choices in the menu: Refresh, Folders and Accounts.

I then tried the foldout menu that appears when hitting the horizontal stripes top left, and went to Settings in the back. I found General Settings > Notification Settings but that's where you turn off notifications...

Then I went into the general menu of my phone , into Settings, then Accounts and Sync. There is a Yahoo setting there.
My settings are:
- Background data is ON (apps can sync etc. at any time)
- Auto Sync is OFF (apps sync data automatically is off)
- My Yahoo Account (eti_erik) says 'Sync off' and there's an icon of rotating arrows.

Now does this last one mean that I need to tap it to turn Syncing off, or does it mean that it IS off? Is this about auto-checking e-mail or is this about something else entirely?

If somebody could help me, that would be great!

Launch Email
Choose your Yahoo account
Menu > Account Settings
Check Inbox Frequency > Never

Never was hiding at the top on mine, but it works.

Thanks. I never used that 'email' button so I hadn't looked there...
will see if it works. For now it doesn't appear to accept my username/email combination...

Just to be sure: I need to type my regular yahoo address and the password I normally use on Yahoo, right?

Yahoomail is not autochecking anymore, don't know why. I can't get into that 'email' thing at all, it refuses my name/password. But it looks like I don't need it.

I had to re-install my Yahoo Mail app (could not update because of insufficient storage space, had to delete and reinstall) and now I keep getting mail notificatinos once more.
Does anybody know how to get rid of them?
I can't find an option within Yahoo Mail, and my general settings are stil as above. Thank you!

I found the answer online - you have to tap the menu in the top left corner of the screen, scroll 5 kilometers down and hit 'settings'.

Guys,

I have an SGS3 & I installed the latest Yahoo Mail App V 3.03.
It keeps running in background & eats my mobile data which is why I want to turn it off. I want it to refresh & load new mails when I want to not automatically.

I have disabled the Sync for this account uder settings but it still updates it.

Help.!

SGS3 with 4.1.2

If you head to Settings -> Data Usage -> Yahoo -> Restrict Background Data (Put a tick in the box), that should stop it from eating data in the background and only update when you open the app (or you're on a WiFI connection).
