Open up the Messaging app on your mobile and go from there. Once signed into your Google account, your contacts should be sync'd.
Keep in mind, most devices (including tablets) require a cell connection in order to text; as in you can't simply use wifi.

How do I text

Hello!
Try this!
Make sure your at home.
You can get there by clicking the house icon on the bottom of the screen.
Now find messaging or Sms.
Click it.
Look around on the new screen find
"New message"
If you don't see it look for a Symbol on the corner of your screen.
This will bring you to a screen. On the top is a box.
Type in the number of the person here.
On the bottom is an other box type your message here.
when your done click send.
