How do I transfer files from computer to Le Pan II?

I have files on a hard drive that I want to transfer onto my Le Pan 2 tablet. But my tablet will not accept files when I try to transfer them from my computer. Whenever I try opening any file, except Adobe Reader files, it says "The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected". Any ideas? Do I need to download anything?
 
Welcome! There are wifi transfer apps such as AirDroid that will allow you to transfer files via wifi. Is that an option?
