How do i turn off auto complete, but keep suggestions?

So suggestions for words are great, very useful. Auto correct on the other hand is absrudly frustrating lol. Does anyone know how to keep the suggestions that pop up for a word while tying and yet disable the auto complete?

Thanks.

WOW! That would be great, I have a constant problem with sending lots of texts with completely wrong words.

I messed with settings for half an hour and it seems like it is impossible, i downloaded google keyboard from the app store and its MUCH better. There are different levels of auto complete and its stock setting is "modest" which seems to work quite well.

Just turn off word prediction: settings, language and keyboard, HTC Sense input, advanced, uncheck word prediction.

Turning off word prediction gets rid of suggestions too, and i want to keep those. I just want to find the setting that turns off auto complete for words. Google keyboard is working fine atm but i do think the HTC keyboard is "prettier" so id still like to find a fix lol.

Aaaaaahhhh... I have the Swype keyboard installed on my phone, and I don't remember if it came standard on the phone or if I added it in an effort to deal with some issue - probably this same spell checking madness! Anyway, if standard: settings, language and keyboard, swype, settings... plenty of spell checker options there.

...not using swype lol. Turning off auto correct in swype settings only turns off auto correct for swype.

Not according to the test I just did.

I don't "Swype" either, but the features still affect regular typing. If your phone has Swype installed, you should look into this. As I said, I don't recall if it was standard on our phones or not, so someone else please chime in and clear that up.

Swype>settings>auto correction unchecked.

Open HTC sense keyboard and it still auto-corrects words (badly lol), maybe we have different version of phones?

Swype settings is the only place i can find to disable auto correction, which does not affect the HTC keyboard. Its not a huge deal like i said i found a decent replacement keyboard but would still like to know if its possible.

Ya i think you are confused still, im not actually using the swype keyboard, im talking about the stock HTC sense keyboard (to change this, pull down notification menu while composing a text).
