Help How do I update from 1.6 to 2.1?

Edit:

I have worked out the rooting process.

I now want to debrand.

have tried several methods and so far have been unsuccessful.
I do not want a custom theme.
I want the sony ericsson theme with no branding.

Please help.

Nevermind, the PC Companion was out of date, so it didn't pick up the new OS update.
It just decided it didn't want to tell me it was out of date.

Hey,

I just got my x10 in the mail, it has optus branded 1.6 software.

I am using a virgin mobile sim card.

I am unable to update the phone.
The PS Companion says it is up to date.

What do I do to fix this?

Get SEUS and use it to update. PC Companion is pretty unreliable.

Hopefully there is an update for you.

Sony Ericsson - Support - Softwaredownloads - Detailed - Updateservice - Xperia? X10

Give it a go, hopefully that will give you the update. If not, I hope your cell provider has released it.

Could look up your phone number in this list too...if it's in the list, it should get the 2.1 update.... http://blogs.sonyericsson.com/products/category/xperia-x10/

Yeah my PC Companion says the same thing and im on 1.6..

Theres many threads on this forum about doing the 2.1 update..

It worked.

I think i just got it rooted, trying to get busybox to check it.

Can someone reccomend a debranding guide?

If you have already loaded 2.1 and you have already loaded busybox, I would highly suggest making the next jump and install Eminence which is a streamlined version of 2.1 that has all the branding removed. It is much quicker than the default x10 android 2.1 and with a much better looking theme and launcher and icons.

Once it is rooted, debranding I guess could be done by removing some of the apps that were locked, but now that it is rooted, you may be able to remove them. As for the boot loader screen that you have (for me my service provider is Rogers, so that was the logo I was greeted with when I started the phone) I had that replaced when I made the next step and installed xRecovery and the did a current backup and then installed Eminence the 2.1 custom image.

Is there a better way?
I already have root and I don't want to change the theme.

I just want to remove the branding.

Well, if you install that xRecovery, that removes the Splash screen at the start showing your service providers name.

I guess you could install Titanium Backup if you aren't able to remove any specific application using the regular application menu.

Not sure what other branding there is apart from maybe a couple preloaded apps.
