Help How do I use my own background but custom icons?

I tried go launcher to use with some icons for it and it changes my wallpaper to where I apparently can't change it to what I want. What I want to do is use my existing wallpaper which is mostly black and some icons different than the standard ones.

long press your home screen until the option shows up.

Thanks. I did that before but it didn't work. I reloaded the background directly from dropbox and it worked.
