How do you open attachments in Gmail

Working with the Behold II here. I can see the paper clip for attachments but how do I open them?

if its a picture / word / excel /pdf just click it...

if its something else (like an apk file) you have to access gmail through the web browser... you can download any file type from there.

I can't download a .doc attachment on my Eris. Preview cuts off the left edge making the doc nearly readable. This reply box on all the forums doesn't work right either.
