How does an app know its been installed before?

How does an app know its been installed before? Like the apps that have a trail on them (poweramp). Is it something with registry and does anyone know where it is saved in to remove it so i can have the trail again? I have a rooted htc incredible so i can view files.

Apps that use caches or external data usually setup a hidden folder on your sd card or sd partition. If you uninstall an app and then delete the hidden folder (usually the same name as the app) then you will be able to start fresh.

lunatic59 i went into /sdcard/android/data and there was a folder in there with the app name and deleted it then i re installed the app and the trial expiration is still coming up..

pzebrowski the poweramp trial

That wouldn't be the hidden folder I was referring to. It most likely would have been something like ./poweramp (the dot in front signifies it's hidden).

In any case the restriction may not be on the phone at all, but tied to email account the phone is registered to. However it is remembering the date, it's apparent that the developer meant for the trial to be limited so that you would have to buy it to continue using the app. Android forums does not discuss ways to circumvent developer's rights. Remember, without the developers, we wouldn't have quality apps, so support them.

Thanks i got it to work :) and yes i agree on supporting them, i just thought it was a little weird that it claimed to be a two week trial then getting expired after 5 days.. but i like the app enough to buy it :) thanks again.
