How is Signal Strength, dropped calls & battery?

I had to trade in my Galaxy Nexus for a RAZR Maxx because of very poor signal strength, dropped calls, and poor battery life.

I hear that Samsung has poor radios. Is this continued with the S3?

I think the companies need to stop their obsession with thinness and start including batteries at least equal to the RAZR Maxx.

Agreed that thin and compromising battery life is vain and silly, but as mentioned, the S3 apparently has great battery life and based on Anandtech reports, the S4 version should be even better.

I have a Razr thin and battery life is weak. Maxx is very good, but takes a 3300mah battery to do it. A 4430 is inefficient and so are gosh awful LTE chips in current VZW devices.

I am very confident the S4 version will have at least equal battery life with a 2100mah battery as the Maxx with its 3300mah battery. With the same size battery, it will last proportionally longer.

I never had any dropped calls with the nexus and you do realize the nexus reported signal strength in lte which is higher then 3g phones before it? Doubtful but Google it and look at anandtech they had a big article about it.

Sorry about the confusing title. I changed it. The problem with signal strength that I had was with CDMA, not LTE. It would often read -120 dBm which is as low as it reads, I believe.

I realize the processor on the G3 uses smaller circuitry design which is more efficient in terms of power use. When using my GNex, about 50% of the power was used by the screen, however. Transmitting also uses a fair bit of power. The power use of a phone cannot be judged only by the efficiency of its microprocessor.

Several senior members said that Samsung is known for their poor radios. I want to know if this is the case in order to avoid Samsung phones in the future.

I am very pleased with my switch from the Gnex to the RMaxx.

The CDMA Gnex was known to have some signal issues while the GSM version was much better. While Samsung is not known to have the best radios, the early reports are that the S3 is pretty good. A lot will be determined by the carrier and location of the user. Battery life should be excellent due to a very efficient processor and a pretty big battery. So far reports are that the battery life is very good.

Yea; that is an issue for some of us is how the cdma version will perform with regards to reception (alas I don't think anyone will know till end june/early july). Given teh one x battery life (I beileve it uses the same SOC as the usa version of the g s3) battery life will be great (but not as good as the razr maxx).
