How long does a military personnel stay overseas/tour of duty?

It really depends on what kind of role you take in the military, standard is 1 year I believe. Also depends if you get called back up....so could be longer.

army does 1 year, marine corps & navy does 6 months (but they are actually gone for 7)

air force does like a week

*cough* screw you *cough* :D jk

Like it was said it depends on your branch, job, what is going on in the area that you are going to.

And to correct Weazol some of the Air Force has already been doing 6 month tours while the others were at 4 months, but now the majority of us are doing 6-8 months. i am finishing up one for 7

Army is a year unless you re-up for more. I did a year tour in Uijeongbu, S.Korea back in '94 - '95.

You could either opt to take your 30 days leave after 6 month or just do your 12 months and then take a 30 day leave before your next duty station, which is what I did.
