How much can I do with my phone without a SIM card?

My S7 is scheduled for delivery tomorrow, but unless it comes with a SIM card, I won't have one for a few more days.

Can I still turn on the phone and connect to my WiFi network and set up my phone (download apps, etc.) without the SIM card? Does any kind of setup or initialization require network service? Will not having it in the phone cause any problems?

sim card is simply the connection with your carrier. you'll get alerts and popups from time to time, but overall it's still a workable device. hell, you could use it over wifi for google voice for calls and hangouts for text (as long as with other gmail users, of which there are plenty)

oops... just remembered you can text with google voice #. boom.

I understood it as he wasn't sure if the new device came with a sim card, and if it did not, could he set it up etc without one.
Otherwise to get a sim card, it would be a few more days before he thought he could use the device.

Exactly. T-Mobile sent me a SIM card but the delivery date would be later than the phone itself.

As it turned out, the phone did come with one, so I was up and running on day one!

I got the S7. I don't care much for the curved edges, and besides that, I didn't want that big of a screen. 5.1" is quite nice!
