How much data do you use

First of all I searched and didn't see a thread about this.

This is mostly for those who have unlimited data, but how much do you use per month? Just curious. Feel free to post screenshots of your My Verizon so we can see.

I use about 5-10GB per month, depending on if I'm travelling a lot or not.

I have unlimited data. Honestly it changes from month to month. One month I might not even use 1gig whereas the next month I'll use 5gigs.

I've seen on XDA where some people have used like 100GB per month, they are probably the people that made Verizon go to the tiered data plans.

There are 3 of use on a family plan.... we all have unlimited and our averages are as follows,

Me, Droid X, .5GB per month
Wife, iPhone, .7GB per month
Daughter, iPhone, 1GB per month

We all may fluctuate about + or - .2GB per month but I find we're pretty consistant.

I like how the iPhone uses the most data, and everybody was saying that the change to tiered data wasn't because of the iPhone.

You guys ever heard of wifi? :D

I probably use between 50-100MB per month on 3G. I spend most of my time on wifi.

Wifi sucks compared to 4G LTE speeds, I usually get about 30+mbps and on wifi I get maybe 6mbps. Also having Wifi turned on without turning off your data will drain the battery quicker.

Wifi is much more energy efficient than is cellular. I get much better battery life when I am on wifi than when I am not. In fact, I had some Exchange syncing issues while on my office wifi, so I had to turn it off while there. During that time, my battery would be at ~40% when I left the office. I have since resolved that issue, and leave wifi on all day. Today when leaving the office, my battery was at ~75%. Huge difference.

And my co-worker who has a Rezound saw the same battery issues when he turned off his wifi (he had the identical Exchange issues).

And as for speed, I have 30Mbs internet speed at home, and 15Mbs at work, so speed is not an issue.

Get a better home internet connection ;-)

Better than 30Mbs? No need. Especially since the 802.11G card in my laptop can't even keep up with what I have now. Until I replace my laptop with one that has N, faster internet would be completely wasted. Even then, I can't think of anything that would require faster than what I have.

I don't have the unlimited plan, having my phone going on two months now, but I haven't cracked the 1gb of data usage. I'm currently around 400+mb for the current month. I have the 4gb plan and use wifi while at home.

It seems my battery will drain before using too much data.

You can still use WiFi. Since it's a University, shouldn't they have an insane connection?

not when there's about 4,000 people connected 24/7 during the days its worse, about 10,000 people are on it. I get better connection when I am wired into the network, but not that great.

Jeez, I'm seeing people use 5GB on a given month, I barely use 1GB. This consists of reading news and blog apps, Facebook, and some browser use. I hardly ever use my 3G for Pandora, or video, which I know are the largest data gobblers.

Currently on day 28 of 31 on the hot Verizon 4G LTE network:
phone 1: 5.099 GB of 12 GB plan (this is 1GB higher than normal:))
phone 2: 1.064 GB of 4 GB plan
phone 3: 1.428 GB of 4 GB plan

(Previously I used 0.3GB average per month on an AT&T 3G pda/smartphone. They were so slow that i can't or didn't wanna look at anything ha ha:D)
bye.

A lot of the variations happen based on the apps used. When I use netflix for myself or the kids during the month I can burn through data like a sailor on shore leave can go through rum.

Other months I use much less.

Sadly, I think it's those people who ruined it for the rest of us. Unlimited doesn't mean you go ahead and abuse it!

I barely go over 3 GBs a month with streaming radio and occasionally some NetFlix but I have Unlimited Data so I really don't worry about it. I went over 3 GBs one month but stayed under 4 GBs.

I try not to be a data hog and I save most heavy downloads to be done on Wifi at home where I have my big fat TWC Wideband 50 Mbps connection.

Its pretty hard to abuse unlimited.

I would say that using LTE to Torrent (which in of itself is highly illegal, at least the major of the files being downloaded via Torrents are illegal) and using your LTE as a permanent home Internet connection is classified as abusing Unlimited data.

There's a reason why there's something called a Home Internet Connection such as DSL or Cable.

Eh.. tethering is a different story.

Now, if you somehow use 10 GBs of data legitimately on your phone, as in you don't use unauthorized tethering techniques, then that's not something I'd classify as abusing your Unlimited data plan. Even using 20 GBs of data legitimately wouldn't be classified as abusing your Unlimited data. But, the emphasis is on legitimate use of that data, as in no unauthorized tethering.

Those who use unauthorized tethering techniques are the ones abusing their Unlimited data. Those are the people who ruined it for the rest of us.

I'll hold onto my Unlimited data as long as I can.

350-400MB. My wife is about the same, maybe a little less, on her iphone 4. I'm thinking a family share data plan will probably work well for us.

I actually agree, I have only used 3.1GB in the first two weeks of this month. And I only tethered for about 30 minutes which was just a bit of surfing so nothing to big.

Normally, not even 1GB. But, I just took a road trip to Colorado to go snowboarding(24hr drive), and my GPS, Pandora, and Barnacle Tether were on 90% of the driving time. I used 2.2GB in 5 days. . . I have unlimited data.
