how much does th extra fees cost

my wife and i might be adding on to my parents plan and they might be redoing there plan.

what they have now: 3 basic phone with 2000 shared minutes.
what we want to upgrade to: 3 smartphones and 1 basic phone

the share everything plan is gonna be 230 month access with 6gb of shared data.

my question is about the extra fees (taxes, regulatory fees, fcc fees, etc.) how much realistically can we expect to be paying after all the fees per month?

we would be splitting the bill with them so im wondering how much can we expect to be paying.

I think the only thing you can do is look at your current bill and try to work out what the taxes and fees might be. Keeping in mind that taxes are ususally a percentage of the bill and fees are usually a flat amount based on each individual phone on your plan or based on your total bill.

I just dug out my last months bill. We have 3 smartphones.
2 iPhones and 1 Droid X, 1400 minutes and all with unlimited data.

Access charges ............................................... $198.50
Verizon Wireless surcharges and other charges ........ $16.63
Taxes, Gov surcharges, & Fees .............................. $1.98
Total bill ........................................................ $217.11

So our taxes and fees amount to just under 10% of our total bill.

You mean 10%.

18.61/198.5 = 0.0938 (or 9.38%)

Yup, sorry, typo.... just under 10%. (must be something wrong with my keyboard, cuz can't be me, right?) :smokingsomb:

Thanks, (fixed the typo, boy the edit option was available for a looooong time)

Here is my latest bill, it's for 3 smartphones w/unlimited data and 2 dumbphones, 1400 minutes, no texts (I pay per text, got nailed this month, it's usually only a few dollars).

Monthly Access Charges
$187.93
Usage Charges
$0.00
Messaging
$26.95
Data
$0.00
Equipment Charges
Includes charges for equipment and accessory purchases
$4.04
Verizon Wireless' Surcharges and Other Charges & Credits
$12.99
Taxes, Governmental Surcharges & Fees
$18.96

Total Current Charges
$250.87

So, it's a little more than 10% for me. I get a 20% discount on 1 line of data and the minutes...I sort of figure that goes back to cover the taxes and fees. $22 in discounts and $32 in fees.
It will probably vary by state too, NY is typically high in taxes so my state fees may be more than yours.

I talked to a vzw rep and she said its generally 10%. But there's also a 30$ upgrade fee and a 36$ activation fee... so probably be able to make the switch next month when I can afford to shell out 72$ in activation. Thanks everyone!
