how much room does android use

I recently bought an 8gb creative zen touch 2 entertainment device. after deleting all photos and dvds that came preloaded,I have only 4.1 gb left for personal use .my question is does the android o/s need 4gb of space or is there a fault. thank you, nireman.

Are there any apps that came preinstalled? They are known to take up a lot of space. You can also go and buy a microSD card for more space if you need to.

When they say 8gb, they usually reserve some for the OS.
They usually allocate 1-2gb for space, but it can differ quite a bit.
