Im getting a new battery because im having slow charging problems,Now ive been told maybe ive used the battery the wrong way im not to sure he was the right person on telling me how to use a battery wasn't sure his advice was right at all. Anyway so looking in the S3 booklet it tells you nothing about how you should charge a new battery so whats your advice?

Thanks

^^^that's a good summary. Honestly, aside from not letting it completely discharge, I don't worry about it. And my OG Droid is still running on it's 4 year old original battery.

Thanks for the link sounds good.

One thing it doesn't talk about is charging it from new do you let it run down so the phone turns itself off then charge it for 12 hours,Or do you charge it as soon as you put it in your phone and only untill it reaches 100%.

Nope, just use it. That's a carry over from old rechargable batteries that would generate a "memory." Newer rechargable batteries don't have that issue.

Ok just use it till it say gets to 40% then charge it i say 40% because thats what i normally do it at.

So this is why i didn't listen to the tech man in the vodafone store he told me i should be running it flat each month.

And also told me when i get the new battery put it in the phone let it run flat so the phone turns off then charge for 12hours.

You are more likely to do damage trying to emply the battery. Even bump charges (i.e. short charges of convenience plugging it into your car for the commute to/from work) won't hurt it.

Thanks.

So with new batterys do they come quite full or pretty empty,Im asking this because ive never had to ever get another battery so was just curious.

I haven't purchased replacement batteries myself, but in my experience with the batteries that come with new devices, they usually have about 40-80% charge. Enough for the device to be activated in a store. If you are concerned, just plug it in when you get it.

Got the battery today it was flat no juice what so ever,How long does it take for the S3 to charge from flat with the phone off.

It depends on how dead it really is. Batteries often go into a safe mode when they get super low to prevent damage (see previous comments about not fully discharging). When they go into this safe mode, it can take an overnight charge just to get above 10% charge. Often, it will then charge normally. If it hasn't gone below the threshold for that, it should charge in a couple of hours with no problem.

Thanks.

Im really not sure if its the battery i put it on charge then i looked at the display about a hour later it hardly went up,So i took the charger connection out of the phone then put it straight back then it showed it was charged about 50%.

A few side questions: I just bought a new battery for my s3, and it's a HUGE improvement. It had 40% when it arrived, btw.
1. Is a fully functional new battery going to charge more slowly? This thing lasts all day, but when I put it on the charger it doesn't seem to fill up as quickly as the old battery, which would charge or discharge in just a couple of hours.
2. In my quest to squeeze more life out of the old battery, I installed GSam battery monitor. It's still on the phone. I notice quite a bit of fluctuation in the temp readings. My question- what temp should my battery be? And at what point is it an issue? I just looked before this sentence and it says 90

bander, it the battery an extended battery or the same capacity as the original. I would expect a larger capacity battery to take longer to charge. As far as temp goes, I never really paid attention. The article linked by Sol above mentions loss of capacity for various temps, so there is that.:)

Same as original, 2100mah. It is a genuine Samsung, identical to original in every way except for what I mentioned above.

Looks like im going to have to send mine off to be looked at as its still taking to long to charge. Took 5 hours to charge yesterday and now its been on for two hours it was only 70% when i put it on charge.

How rubbish is Vodafone repair well really rubbish:

Took the phone into them they sent it off came back in 5days saying problem fixed no details what was fixed,So i get home put it on charge and its still taking forever to charge,So i phone up vodafone to get told they dont send it to samsung they fix it themselves,So i asked what was done here it comes they updated the software and they said that solved the problem,How can updating the software that was allready up to date fix the problem. Its clearly a hardware problem.

Have you tried multiple chargers?

No i dont want to spend money on a charger if its not the charger,I sent the phone with the charger so i presume they tested the charger.
