How to access a file downloaded with handcent? (for the love of god!)

I've done 30 minutes of searching on the site, read a bunch of threads about file management, SMS/handcent and I still don't have an answer to this:

Where in god's name is handcent storing files that were sent via SMS?

I clicked "download" in handcent and received confirmation that the image downloaded. Already have a file manager installed, have browsed pretty much every directory on the phone and the sd card looking for the file, to no avail.

Please no "do a search" or "get a file manager" answers. I've tried that!

Thanks!

Handcent attachments are downloaded to Handcent > download

If you look in your gallery you should see them under simply "Download"

in OI File manager I don't see a "handcent" directory anywhere internal/sd

maybe I need a better file manager?

my preinstalled "albums" image viewer app doesn't have anything called "download". My other album groupings do not include the image.

Hmm I use ES File Explorer and "handcent" is right at the root of my SD card.

But the file manager should not matter. If you plug your card into your PC you should be able to see exactly what your file manager sees.

I would try unmounting and remounting your card and then download an image from handcent.

If that doesn't help, try creating the folders yourself. On the root of the card make one called "handcent" and one inside of that called "download."

Good luck!

After re-reading your first post I think I've got it...

Clicking "download" in Handcent simply shows the MMS. In order to SAVE it you have to long-press the image and choose "save to SD card"

Let me know if that solves it for ya!

Ok, there must be some other issue because the image never showed up, after downloading what it referred to as a "message" The download button simply re-appeared. Trying stock messaging program...

same issue with stock messaging app, so I'm chalking it up to my friend sent a bunk picture message from his iphone

You aren't connected to wifi are you? I know MMS is wonky when you are.

Also, iPhones send HUMONGOUS images, so perhaps it's above the file-size limit for MMS - which I think is like one meg on Android.

Ask your friend to resize it and send again.

I am indeed on wifi. tried turning that off too. No matter what I do, i get a "download was unsuccessful" message. I read that as "successful" the first time, confusing us all. It shows as only 30kb so it shouldn't be a size issue.

Odd. I would ask another friend on another network to send an MMS and see what happens. Seems like it might be a network issue. But keep it off of wifi.

I know a recent Handcent update said that you can now receive MMS while connected to wifi, but it still doesn't work too great for me if it's on.

One last thought - under your handcent settings there are MMS retrieve settings. Try fooling with them.

Hi there,

I am wondering if you ever found a way to access items downloaded with Handcent. I am having the same exact problem as you. I have astro file manager (although I'm still not great with it) and held the message and clicked save and received the confirmation that my .mp3 was "saved to sd card." I cannot find it anywhere, though!

The only Handcent folder I see in Astro is the one I created myself, which is empty. I have a download folder, but the song is not in there. What gives??!

Go to the photo gallery on you phone. Menu>Settings>Default Albums and make sure "Downloaded" is checked and it should be in there. Hope this helps.

Edit: This would work for downloaded pictures. Not sure about other types of files. Sorry, i read your post wrong.
