Help How to backup everything on my phone?

Hi, just wish to know how to backup everything, I mean the most common data like pic / contacts /
Apps data are not that much and not as important. I will simply write it down or type it down on a notepad.

For the rest of data , pic/vids/contacts/ and yeah I almost forgot, SMS messages. I've got a lot of SMS messages that I want to backup them .

Does Google Play help?? How to do that?? I am a new Android user. In fact I am an old guy never a tech geek

You need to setup your phone to backup your data.

1. In Settings > Backup and reset > Backup my data > Enabled. Automatic restore > Enabled.
2. In Settings > Accounts > Menu > Auto-sync data > Enabled.
3. In Settings > Accounts > Google > Select your account > Select data to be backed up.
4. Contacts, calendar events, etc must have been saved to your Google account.

If you did these steps you apps, most of your setup and data will automatically be transferred to a new phone. SMS/MMS are not included, however, nor is anything on the SIM card, but you shouldn't save anything to the SIM anyway. Do a search for 'SMS backup' in the Play store and you'll find several utilities for that.

Backup photos, documents and other files manually by copying them to a computer or to cloud storage like Google Drive or Dropbox.

You might want to check out Helium and MyBackup Pro also.

Hello. Thanks for your information.

Is it a generalized method for all Android phone or does it only work for particular models? Can I also back up the SMS messages by that mean??

My phone is an Android phone from China. Does it work too? They provide official cloud service but I don't want to backup any data to Chinese providers.

I purposely made the instructions nonspecific generic and usable for almost any Android device.

SMS/MMS can be backed up by Helium or MyBackup Pro or by one of several utilities dedicated for that purpose only in the Play store.

Hi I would like to know -- there is an option in my Android phone about -- Remove Google account.

It warns me that if I removed my Google account from the phone. Data on the Phone will be deleted too. I am worried..

I have a lot of contacts, and other datas like pics /... I don't know if they were from my Google account or from my sim card.
Now I can see my Google account is connected to the phone

How can I do to ensure everything is backup to the Google account and no worry about any deletion on the phone??

btw, does it backup Wechat history too??

Settings < Accounts < Google < Google account < tap three dots in top right < sync now
The time under should change to your current t time for everything enabled to sync under that name.

I would advise you make a hardcopy backup of your contacts, messages, bookmarks, etc (whatever you wouldn't want to lose) every so often as a 'just in case' safety.

MyBackup or Titanium Backup are the two I use. I have mine set to schedule backups of the above paragraph and send it via Cloud or Email. If you want to backup apps and settings. Titanium Backup can do that as well.

*** NOTE*** Titanium will need root. I don't think the MyBackup does for basic phone stuff but I could be wrong. Both are listed on Play Store.

Do not delete the default Google account on the phone. If you have more than one Google account on the phone, the default account is the one you used when you did the initial setup. Deleting am account willl result in all data related to that account being removed from the phone, as it should.

If you have contacts saved on the SIM card they are not synced to your Google account. You should not save anything to the SIM. See this:

http://forums.androidcentral.com/showthread.php?p=4456340

You need to make sure all your contacts are saved to your Google account. Login to Gmail online and check your contacts. If some or all contacts are missing, this explains how to get all your contacts organized in Google and synced to your phone:

I don't know anything about Wechat.

I don't know anything about Wechat.
[/QUOTE]

I have too many contacts, I don't know which one is from SIM and which one is not. They are mixed and I am confused.

After enabling the '' sync'' to Google accounts, can I delete the data on the phone?? Will it also delete the data on the Google accounts so that I would lose all the data???? As far as I understand about ''sync'' -- It means the same thing happening at the same time

If you want to delete data which is saved to Google, if you want to delete it on the phone only, disable sync for that before deleting.

For example, say you want to delete contacts on the phone, but not in Google, because you want to do cleaned-up contacts list online and sync that to the phone. Then before deleting contacts on the phone you go to:
Settings > Accounts > Google > Select your account > <Disable contacts sync
Now you can delete contacts on the phone without affecting the contacts saved to Google.

Read the links I gave in my previous post carefully. Hopefully that will help you to understand just how this works. Once you get the basics it not really as complicated as you might think.

how to exporting contacts from SIM to phone is solved. Now also sync to Google accounts

But still remain headache is that there is more contacts on the phone than on the Google accounts after many times of sync....

Can I connect two Google accounts to one mobile device at the same time?? Will it make things confusing or risk losing files??

I have one Google account almost full because I have uploaded something else to them through web browsers.

I want to sync the pictures taken by or saved on my mobile devices to another Google account. Will it work??

There is no problem having more than one Google account, but you need to check the account that is backing up is the one that you want. Sync pictures it's better in my opinion to use CM Backup app. You can find more info about that here

You have contacts saved to phone-only storage (which does not sync to Google) and/or the SIM which you have not saved to Google. You need to export them and import them into your Google account. I gave you a link to step by step instructions how to do that.

You can have multiple Google accounts on a phone, yes. I'm not sure how you could transfer photos from one account to another. Depends on how you saved them. But there should be a way.

Of course you can, it's on Settings >> Accounts >> Add account and then you can add as many as you want :)

Correct. A good reminder.

I must strongly disagree with this - very strongly, sorry. Anything by CM (aka Cheetah Mobile) should be considered malware and avoided like ebola. See this:

My phone is an Android phone from China. Does it work too? They provide official cloud service but I don't want to backup any data to Chinese providers.

If you happen to have an Oppo or a Vivo. Both those do provide a complete backup and restore of everything, apps, data, SMS, etc. As I was able to do when I upgraded from an Oppo F7 to an R7 Plus a few months ago. That wasn't to Chinese clouds either, it was all transferred to SD locally on my phone. Any other Chinese phones, all depends on what the particular manufacturer might have provided, on top of what you might find in Android in general, e.g. using Google.

After backup and sync my photos (and vids) on Android phone to Google account
Can I (and how to) delete the photos (and vids) on the phone while the copy on the Google side is not deleted??

How can I always "add" to the Google side while all "eliminate" will not affect the copy on the Google side??
I dont' really understand very well how it works.

For example, I take a photo with my Android device and it then saves a copy to the Google account.
While if I delete a photo on my Android device it does not delete the copy on the Google account

Is it possible?? Is it difficult??

Once it is backed up all you have to do is to delete it. It is still saved to the cloud.

According to "How does Sync work" on official Google website

Sync means that you only have to make changes to photos and videos once. Changes you make to your photos, like editing and deleting, will happen on every device that syncs to your Google Photos library. This includes:

I only want to delete the photos/vids on my mobile phone, but not on the Google side/account/cloud

Your answer is not correct

MLSS' suggestion should work, I've just deleted some pics off my device to test.

However, if you open the Google Photos App, head to Settings -> Free Up Device Storage, that will definitely do what you're after.

Follow -up question:

After creating a copy of all the photos from my Android device to Google Photo, Can I (and how to? ) restore the contents from Google Photo to another Android device??

That means
from Android to Google Photo--- I've learnt it. It's OK now
from Google Photo back to Android -- How to do it??
