Help How to block ads in apps ?

batboy

Hi,

What application do you recommend for blocking ads inside app ?

sometimes they exaggerate with advertisements...

Thank you

I use and recommend AdAway also. I always root my phone for this app. I never see ads in my phone.

I never understood this. People don't want ads, but do not want to pay for apps. How is the developer supposed to earn?

I have no issue whatsoever paying for apps, nor do I have issue with small, discreet adverts that don't interfere in how the app/game works.

What does annoy me is apps which interfere with gameplay or ads wich you're forced to watch between levels, or ads which you can't skip.

Developers need paid, I totally understand that and if they need to put ads in their apps/games, that's totally fine as long as they're not forced.

I absolutely hate ads so I'm always willing to pay for an app if I'm going to use it. I don't mind devs getting their fair share. I usually uninstall anything with ads. I wish the Play Store provided more information about this. A lot of times you have to install the app to find out if its ad supported or not.

I have seen a couple of apps that just show ads at the bottom of the screen. That at least meets your "small and discreet" criteria and aren't overly objectionable.

I'm also using AdAway, but where there is a paid version of an app I'm invariably using that rather than the free one. So the only developers who lose out are a couple who don't offer me any alternative to ads.

Given how intrusive or even malicious some ad services can be, I don't feel too bad about blocking globally. The mobile ad industry is its own worst enemy in many respects.

I buy paid versions of apps all the time.

I also get apps on XDA where I can buy them a "beer" via paypal. I'm not oblivious to the developers' needs.

But, those malicious ads have no place on my phone.

IMHO, I think we got off topic here and it's probably a good (and fair) discussion for another thread. :D

please dont get me wrong, I dont mind to have ads inside app. but sometimes developers exaggerate with advertisements.

I'm using Block This on non-rooted devices:
https://block-this.com/

It's a very simple blocker,no fine tuning/whitelisting/blacklisting,only option is whether to auto start on boot.
I've had no issues until I put it on the HTC 10,had to disable the start on boot toggle, for some strange reason my screen became unresponsive & I couldn't get into the app itself.
Otherwise, starting it up after boot & I have no issues.
My other devices I used this on,including two other SnapDragon 820-powered phones, did not have this problem,so,it seems to be HTC 10 specific.

For rooted devices:
AdAway for the win!
http://free-software-for-android.github.io/AdAway/
https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdid=org.adaway

Virtually all the apps on my phone that have a Paid/Pro option,or a donate option, which I gladly pay for, well worth the price of admission.
There's a few that offer neither (games),which I paid for & still push ads & for that & annoying browser pop-ups,I use ad blockers.

Very few of my apps are the 'totally free' ones...
and of those, most of them don't even have a Paid, no advert version.
