I have an external SD card, but there are hardly any items on it. How do I get pictures, (travel) maps, e-books etc on this external sd card?

Most offline maps apps have in their settings the option to store the downloaded mapps on the SD card.
The same with offline dictionaries.
Most eBook/PDF/doc readers have a build-in browser, so you could place eBook files directly on the SD card and let the reader find them.
