How to carry spare battery?

After my first encounter with a dying phone at a crucial moment, I've decided to break down and buy a spare battery. 2, actually, since I got 2 batteries plus a wall dock so they can charge when not in the phone. Gotta love eBay. So my question is, what is the best way to carry them? I usually have a backpack with a separate lined pocket for "media devices" that I carry my phone in, would dropping the battery in there be fine? I know you don't want metal to touch the contact points, and my cell phone is the only thing in there at any time, so that's not much of a concern. The other idea I found online was to put tape across the contact points to prevent them from being short circuited. I've looked all over, but can't find anything about carrying cases for loose batteries (I'm imagining something similar to the plastic carrying cases for loose GameBoy games). Does anyone have any ideas?

I have the EVO and got 1500 batteries, if that makes a difference.

I'd just grab a cell phone pouch and put it in there. That way even if it does bump or rub things, the stress on the battery is minimized.

When I'm carrying an extra, I just chuck the back-up battery in pants. Left rear pocket, to be specific. It fits fine in jeans. You can't feel it. Just remember to take it out before laundry. That is not the recommended way to acquire the acid-wash look, though it does look quite classy, if I do say so myself!

I wouldnt put it in the same pocket with the phone, not because or worrying about shorting out, but worrying about scratching the phone. If you do that, just put it in a ziplock back or something so it doesnt scratch.

Or you could buy a spare battery case... just sayin

You know, if I'm courteous enough to take the time to research something before I ask stupid questions, I'd expect people to be courteous enough to *READ* my post in *FULL* before replying.

So Dark4181, where are these spare battery cases you suggest I get? Because I sure can't find them by Googling "spare battery case" "carry loose battery" "battery carrying case" or any permutation of various related words.

I know the perfect case.

They generally have them in any size imaginable at your local WalMart. Go to the clothing section, and check out the jeans they have. You'll notice they have back pockets, front pockets, and even side pockets if they're carpenter. If you're feelin' really fancy, they have cargo pants.

good call on the gameboy game case, i found one laying around the house about a month ago and it is great for the purpose.

i really did get nervous carrying it around in my pocket with keys/change all day before, lol.

I put my spare battery in an old sock and toss it in my laptop bag. Isn't that what mis-matched socks are for?

Beat me to it! also, if you dont have a sock laying around, a piece of tape over the metal prongs is more than sufficient, and im not even certain thats necessary

Take mine off the battery charger each day along with my device and put the extra battery in the same pocket in my man bag that hold the device. I make sure that the device is in front of the spare battery and have had not problem with scratches on device case or even losing the spare. Always there in case I need it. No sock, no tape, no special case to mess with.

Hmm, now I have to go hunt down a GB case, I've got a bunch around the house but after the mass cleaning weekend my boyfriend and I had, a bunch of stuff got boxed up and put in the attic. And with my bad shoulder I can't get the ladder down to check. Wonder if the EVO battery will fit in it .....

The other thing I thought of was getting a small camera case and keeping the charger in it, along with my spare battery. I hate having 3 million things plugged into my wall outlets at home, so I wouldn't be leaving it in there all the time, anyway. And if it has a specific "home", I'm less likely to lose it in the unorganized chaos that I call my home. :)

Good idea on the sock, but that would look a little odd to be carrying around in a purse when I go out.

Great idea using the Game boy cover and thanks for posting the image! I've been Googling for a battery case for my spare battery for over a month. Your picture includes the same battery my Droid uses. Thanks again!

You're welcome.

As an update for anyone wondering, the thunderbolt/myTouch 4g battery fits as well.

When I've carried spare batteries, I usually stuck them in the change pocket on my jeans. It seems to be just the right size for some batteries.

i think some cheap bubble wrap might just do the trick,it wont mark when in your bag
and if it falls it wont get damaged, just a thought...good luck..
