How to change volume while locked?

I listen to alot of music and i HATE having to wake it up and everything to adjust the volume. I'm used to an iPod where you can adjust while its locked.

I was wondering if they'res some way to make this option avalible with android.

I'm using a motorola A555 with android 1.6.

Is there some type of app or a simple code change to make this possible? I want it to be for media but if it would know when to do media or ringer that would be great.

Thanks, and sorry if I'm in the wrong forum closest i could find.

On every android device I've had I've always been able to increase/decrease the volume using the volume buttons even when the phone is sleeping. That's odd that your device doesn't allow that.

I believe Widget Locker may be what you are looking for,

WidgetLocker Lockscreen - Android app on AppBrain

I looked at that, One thing I wonder is if that's only for 2.2 or something because when i look for it in the marketplace I can't find it. Also I wonder if anybodys had this problem and fixed it with this. It seems like that may help but you still have to light it up, I want it to change when i hit the volume rocker or whatever w/o any other interaction.

@jw

Yeah I know most of my electronics do, i could try it on my parents droid with 2.2 and see if its any different. I couldn't find any options to fix it.

I also want to say that the more common name fro teh phone im using is the motorola devour, i saw A555 alot for some reason said that

With the incredible, if I am listening to last.fm, all i have to do is hit the down button, and it will automatically lower the volume.
