Help How to check if the phone is unlocked?

Ok so I know most of you guys are aware that the Samsung Galaxy S5 have some flaws with the sim card slot.. apparently, it isn't spring loaded so removing the sim card can be a pain in the ass.

Is there an alternative way to check if the phone is unlocked?

The only way I know of is to put in a SIM from a different carrier.
