Generally there are 2 ways to connect a tablet to the internet. The most common is WIFI and then some tablets offer 3G/4G service just like a cell phone and require a service with a mobile carrier.
There is not physical a way to connect a modem to your tablet so you would need to connect using WIFI or 3G/4G if your tablet supports it. If you don't have WIFI or can't get 3G/4G service and you have a cell phone you could check into if your phone supports tethering so you could share your data connection with your tablet via WIFI or Bluetooth
