Help How to disable/delete shutter sound?

I hate the fact that there is an incredibly loud "beep beep [shutter sound]" every time I take a picture, even when the phone is in silent mode. This means I can't take pictures places where noise levels are supposed to be low.

From what I've read, the only way to disable the sound is to delete some sound files on the camera. Why on EARTH isn't there an easy way to turn the stupid sound off? ******ed.. Anyways, sorry about that tangent, but I installed root explorer to delete the sound files, but I can't seem to find the right ones. Anyone know?

Thanks!

Are you on ICS or GB?

I know the reasoning behind the noise though is to protect people in states where there are laws governing taking pictures secretly/silently.

If you go into the settings area under phone info what does it say your android version number is?

Go to the Google Play and install Camera ICS. You can silence the shutter and use the volume key to take pictures. You can set it to save the photos in the default DCIM folder on the SD card.

I installed Camera ICS and gave it a try, but in addition to having incredibly annoying ads on screen, I did not see an option to disable the shutter sound.

This is ridiculous! I just want to be able to take a picture with my $500 phone without everyone in a 30ft radius hearing a stupid and very loud "beep beep CLICK."

I know this isn't ideal, but you would be surprised how much you can quiet the sound by putting your finger over the speaker.

Tap the settings icon and then the 3 dots to access options. The disable shutter sound option is there.

I can't find the 3 dots? I just have a little cog wheel thing and no shutter sound option? Am I looking in the wrong camera settings?

Tap the icon on the left that looks like 3 sliders on an equalizer. Then tap the 3 vertical dots on the very left that's the menu icon. You'll find the silence mode settings there.

Thanks, this app works a lot better than my finger over the speaker method :D

I'm kind leaning that way. I wonder if the complaints about the GNex camera are issues with the software.

However, I do love that I can take portrait mode pictures one handed using the volume key as the shutter button.

Thanks for a way to turn off the shutter sound. However there is still an annoying beep for videos. Any idea how to silence that?

You rooted? Here's what you do:

Use Root Explorer and navigate to the Root folder, then the Data folder. Then create a file called local.prop and enter one line of text which reads: ro.camera.sound.forced=0 . Restart your phone. Now you can switch the sound off by muting your phone.

or

Navigate to /system/media/audio/ui from the root folder and rename all the files that have anything to do with camera, shutter, focus sounds.

Go to the play store, search volume control widget. It should be the first one.

Create the widget 4x1, on the very right side of the widget you will see system volume choice, just lower that all the way. It does not interfere with call volume or media/alarm volume!
