Help How to disable geotagging on photos and video

In order to protect my family, I'd like to disable geotagging on any photos or videos that I take with my GS 3. I have the ATT version with ICS. I've read instructions that said you can do it by going to the settings menu in the camera app. I don't have a setting that disables geotags in the camera app that I can find. I think that settings has been removed by ICS or by Samsung or by my carrier.

I've read that you can turn off GPS on the phone before taking photos. One set of instructions said to go to the main phone settings. Then click "Location Services." Then uncheck "Use wireless networks," and "Use GPS satellites." It seems like a pain to have to do this every time I want to shoot photos and then have to go back and reset it after I'm done so that I can use the location services for other things. I wish I could just disable the location services for the camera and leave it like that. Do any of you know how to manage this.

Look again. Open camera app, settings button on lower right corner, when the menu opens up - drag the menu up (it scrolls to show more options). There is an option called GPS tag. Turn it off.

Thanks so much! I had looked and looked at that menu and never saw the GPS item. With your encouragement, I tried some more. What I discovered was that the GPS item does not appear on the menu if you are set to shoot video, instead of photos. It makes sense, I suppose, if there is no geotagging for video files. Anyway, by changing the camera back to photos, I found the GPS item and was very happy that it's off.

In regard to your discussion, I would recommend an android phone applicaiton that is quite useful for the purpose. Actually the application automatically turns on/off the GPS privacy tag in camera app. It will also scan every picture you take with your device, and will verify if the GPS coordinates are within your privacy zone, and will remove the coordinates if so. It gives you the option to add multiple Privacy Areas for home, school, park, etc. Outside of these Privacy Areas, GPS coordinates will stay stored in the pictures - ideal for when you go on trips, outdoors, or similar.
