How to disable split screen Android 7.1.1

I have a Lenovo Tab 4 8 running Android 7.1.1. Unfortunately I keep dropping into split screen mode when I don't want to. This is a pain. So far I haven't seen any need to use split screen for anything, so I would like to disable split screen mode altogether. How do I do that ?

I don't know if it's possible to disable the function altogether, a Google search doesn't come up with anything.

As a workaround, assuming you go into split-screen the same as I do on my HTC M9 by long-pressing the 'recent apps' button and assuming you have 'Accessibility' in your Settings you can reduce the likelihood of accidentally going into split-screen by increasing the 'Touch & hold delay'.
