How to do hard factory reset after 5.1.1 update

Hi, I'm a noob w/ smartphones, and I've had my S6 for a little more than a month. I like it, other than the limited battery life.

I did the update a few weekes back when it rolled out on Cricket, but I never did the hard factory reset that I've seen mentioned on here.

I do have my phone set to auto back up, but not quite sure on how to do the restore, or how to do the reset.

Would you recommend doing this, and if so, please point me in the right direction on how to reset and restore the data on my phone.

Thank you in advance.
Ron

Hate to say this - but the auto-backup is not going to back everything up. My recommendation would be for you to figure out what you want backed up, and then, make sure that is backed up.

In my case, here's what I need backed up
  • Pictures/Videos - I have enabled auto-backup using Google Photos app, and that takes care of backup.
  • Google Authenticator - app data. You can either redo it, or save the QR codes, or use backup codes
  • Settings for some specific apps - I export settings (when available in the app), and save to Google Drive
  • Email settings - I can back it up using Titanium Backup (since my phone is rooted), but I usually re-enter my settings
I don't care for SMS/MMS/Phone call Log backups. And Google keeps track of the Apps that I have on my phone, and will re-download those. With the Google Launcher that I use, it will also take care of placing the icons in the right location once the app is restored.
I use Lastpass to store non-financial credentials, so when the apps are reinstalled, lastpass will enter the user ID/password for me on most apps that need a login.

So, think about "what"you want backed up, and maybe we can help figure out what the best option would be.
Factory reset should be an option in settings/backup-reset. Make sure you are able to get into your google account on your computer before you attempt to do a factory reset.

Thank you jj14x, as someone pointed out to me, I did NOT get the latest lollipop,. Cricket gave me a Cricket update. When will we get 5.1.1? There's no plan of it on the Cricket site as of now..

@rlachapelle What build/version are you on? (settings/about)
I agree with Pugs1957 though - if the device is working properly, no need to reset it. But still, do backup as a safety precaution.
