How to downgrade gmail?

I don't think you can to be honest. You could try installing an older version manually, but I'm not entirely sure it would let you.

I can't imagine why an app would need you to downgrade what's potentially the most important app on the handset to work properly though? What's the name of the ringtone app?
 
The notifier app is just called email notifier but I did find out how to uninstall updates, I just went to my applications, picked up gmail and hit uninstall all updates and now it works like a charm! just need to get some good ring tones to let me know when I got a email.
 
I thought there was an uninstall updates option via the apps menu (there is for the market), but on my handset, I've only got an uninstall option for Gmail. Thinking about it, I presume it's because I flashed the latest version with CM7 and there are no updates to uninstall.

At least you're working now anyway. :)
