How to download a file more than 4gb onto SDCard

Hey there. I've been recently trying to download files that are quite large in size, some around 7gb in size. However, when I try downloading them directly to my phone (I download whilst I'm asleep) if it is over 4gb in size, I get a notification saying how I can't do it. So, after looking around, I discovered that it was due to the card being in FAT32 format, and was recommended to reformat it to NTFS. I have done that and mounted it by using an app for mounting NTFS cards (I'm on a Samsung Galaxy S3 (I9300)). However, I still can't download files that are over 4gb.

Any help is really, really appreciated. My SD is 32gb by the way, and just for extra clarification, I am using a rooted Galaxy S3 running stock 4.1.1. Again, I really appreciate any help, I couldn't find anything useful by searching around, thanks for your time. And more than a little bit of your patience.

Try reformatting the card as EXT4, the maximum filesize is 16Tb. The phone should be able to access the card, as the underlying OS Kernel is Linux, and EXT4 is a native Linux filesystem.

If he format it in Linux format (ext4), he wouldn't be able to use it with Windows, unless there is a utility that can be used. Stupid Windows will not read/write linux format.

Have you read this guide, it looks useful. I haven't tried it though I use Linux as my desktop. I may give it a shot sometime.

The link you posted seems very useful. Thanks for that, I'll let you know how it works out when I get the chance to try it tomorrow.

So, I tried the link you sent me and it worked perfectly, thanks so much for your help. I really, really appreciate it, you've saved me a lot of hassle. I'd thank the guy who made the guide but... I think I'm about 5 months late. Thanks again!
