How To Fix Galaxy J1 Screen and Space Probs?

My galaxy j1, basic model, the oldest, has taken to switching the screen off within a second or so whenever my finger isn't on it and I can't find a way to stop that.

And it won't download apps, claiming there's no space, but there's 12G free on the add-in SD card. I can't find a way to fix that, either.

And it's really hard working with it trying to fix it with the never ending switch off thing so I'd really like that bit fixed first.

And if there's no fix for that nice and handy maybe I should go for reset to factory? Though my son says he already tried that. Something about he took the battery out and held the on off switch for a few seconds I think Hasn't seemed to fix anything.

Any ideas?

Hmm that's a new one to me, with those issues I would go for the factory reset if in fact you're son may not done a factory reset properly and just done a soft reboot instead.

thanks for the reply. I fixed it. found detailed instructions on the web somewhere and followed them for a factory reset and now it's okay. thanks.
