How to get an ADB shell

Sean Browne

Lurker
Hi Guys,

My phone is dead. I think I can fix it if I can get a shell.

From a recovery menu, I can see it in 'adb devices' but the only option I seem to be able to use is 'adb sideload' I am unable to use 'adb shell'.

Sorry for the newb question, I am not an Android geek, just want to fix my phone.

C:\Program Files (x86)\MyPhoneExplorer\DLL>adb devices
List of devices attached
4df7910bf590bfcd sideload

C:\Program Files (x86)\MyPhoneExplorer\DLL>adb shell
error: closed

Cheers,
Sean

Hi Sean :)

We're going to need a bit more info in order to help you:

1) What phone do you have? Is it unlocked/rooted/otherwise modified?
2) How is it "dead"? What is its current state?
3) What happened before it died?

...4) What makes you think you can fix it from an adb shell?
