How to get CSC of a phone that won't boot

JohnC83

Lurker
Hi, I have received a phone that I have found out is rooted. It is stuck at the 'Samsung' Logo on boot and wont go any further. I was going to attempt to install the 'standard' ROM (I have no desire to have a rooted phone. But I don't know which firmware to download because I don't know what the CSC is.

Could someone help please?

I couldn't say if there's a way to get that without being able to boot into the OS, but Samsung is usually pretty specific with model numbers where they get sold and for which carrier. If you boot into Odin Mode (power+home+vol. down) you should be able to see the specific model number and that would help identify which firmware might work on that device.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I am looking for the firmware file at this website.. https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-j5/SM-J500F/

and this is what Odin says but I can't see the applicable firmware based on SM-J5008 ?

ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SM-J5008
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
REACTIVATION LOCK: OFF
CROM SERVICE: Unlock
KNOX WARRANTY VOID: 0x1 (4)
QUALCOMM SECUREBOOT: ENABLE (CSB)
RP SWREV: S1, T1, H1. R1, A1, P1
SECURE DOWNLOAD: ENABLE
SECURE CHECK FAIL : aboot

Ahh ok, its weird because the box says SM-J500F but then obviously odin says SM-J5008. I bought this off Ebay (Brand New) so would the best move be to just get a refund? I don't like the thought of having a rooted phone (who knows what could be installed on it)

Many Chinese phones come rooted out of the box, although I find it a little strange that a Samsung would. I would say definitely that the box does not match the phone that was in it. I couldn't say the seller was pulling some shenanigans, but it wouldn't surprise me either.

Personally, I'd return it.
