How to get details of traffic incident reports on Google Maps notifications

Lately, to be exact, since I got enrolled in Android beta program for Nougat, several months ago, I am getting notifications indicating there are traffic incidents on my way to work or home, depending on which way I am going. And living in Los Angeles area, these are almost every day and multiple times a day. Yet, tapping on the notification, takes me to google app. That's it. I tried starting Google maps manually to see if it will show it to me right off the bat to no avail.

How can I get the details of this reported traffic notification ? I am lost. Thanks in advance.

Yeah, I know and use waze heavily, but it is not my point. Waze tells you about the accidents and the major road events about half a mile before you actually see/hit them. Looks like google maps warnings are way in advance. Heck, sometimes I am sitting in my office and I start to see trrafic incident reports on the freeway, which is a good 4-5 miles from where I am at its closest point to me.
Waze is good but maps notifications might be a better tool to plan my commute, especially in the afternoon/evening as most crazies seems to be out at this time.
