how to get Droid to stay "on" when in cradle?

not sure how to ask that but hope this makes sense

i've got my Droid on it's cradle on my desk
i would like the screen to stay lit or on when it's like this so i can access my phone easier rather than having to turn the phone on each time

any way to do this?

Do you know of a widget that does this? I put a shortcut to Toggle Screen on one of my screen. Works good, it switches between never timeout and what I have in the settings. However, it would be nice to just look quickly and see if it is set to never time out or not.

Locale can do this and much much more. It is fairly pricey at 9.99 but i feel like it is worth it. Definitely my most useful app on my phone.

There's a feature for that:

Settings > Applications > Development > Stay Awake

check that. when it's on your dock/power it will stay on.

huh!
found just as easily as you said.
downloaded the other but will see if this works
if so there's no reason to have more stuff on my phone i don't need and i'll uninstall it.

Also, an alternative to Locale is an app which is still in beta called Tasker, and the author expects to release it in the market by the end of this month. You can download the beta in the forums and check it out. I presume you could setup a Tasker State Profile for when you Docked so that Tasker would run a Task to set the Display to Stay On. Then you could set an Exit Task on this Profile to set the Display Stay On back to Never when you undock. I use Tasker's Display Stay On Task with the Headset Plugged Task so that when I connect the Headphone jack to my car, the Music app automatically launches and the screen stays on so I can see the Music player.
