How do I get my voice mail messages? And, sometimes people have sent me text messages, I see it on their phones but I never received them????

Normally a long press on the "1" key on the phone dialler keypad takes you to voicemail, as long as your voicemail number has been set up (same as on most non-smartphones in fact). Look in the phone app's settings, you should find the voicemail settings in there and be able to check these are correct for your network.
Hard to say about the texts, especially without more information about when it happens and when it doesn't. It could be something silly, like you have a message pop-up with a "delete" button that is set so it can appear over the lockscreen, and so occasionally the message gets deleted in your pocket. Or, perhaps more likely, it could be a network problem, in which case it could be your network or theirs. If you used to have an iPhone and the sender still does then they might still be using iMessage rather than SMS, which only works between 2 iPhones. We'd need to know more to suggest a probable cause.
