How to get past firewall?

Hey guys I have a LG gw620 android 2.3.5 at my campus there is wifi I can connect to it easily enough that's not the problem the problem is I can't access a lot of apps because they are blocked. For example youtube is blocked by the firewall and I can't access on my phone they have blocked instant messaging so gochat wont work and so on. My friend has an iphone and can access everything on it perfectly so I'm certain there is a way around this problem. I have tried a number of proxy apps and they haven't worked at all is there an app I can download or something I can do to get around this firewall? Thanks
 
Maybe a silly question, but do you have a firewall of your own installed like Droidwall or something like it?

If so, make sure that you've allowed them.
