How to get silent notifications for WhatsApp on Pixel 5

How do I get silent WhatsApp notifications on Pixel? I have checked silent notifications, but the only way to stop incoming WhatsApps from pinging is to turn off notifications for the app using settings, notifications, apps from the main menu. I would like to see the notifications on lock screen etc, but not hear them. Do developers deliberately make controlling notification sounds an impossible labyrinth?

Have you tried installing Zedge from the play store?
You can download every type of notification for all apps, including a silent notification.
Or you can just download a silent mp3 notification from a website that hosts such sound files.
Once you download these mp3 or wav files move them to the notifications folder, choose them, and you'll be all set.
