How to I set apps to only use certain wifi connections and not others?

HI,
I have been using Wi-Fi tethering from phone to get data to my tablet. The problem is too many items on my tablet use the Wi-Fi data while using the phone as a tether and it is eating up my data minutes.

Tablet: I would like a way to set up the parameters for many of the apps to NOT use Wi-Fi from my phone.... but that it is OK to use the Wi-Fi from home.

Or at least not in the background. Is this possible?

Phone: it would be nice to have the tethering cut off automatically when I get home.

Lastly: I am not interested in rooting the phone or any alternative OS varients.

The phone is using the latest 6 and the tablet is using the latest 7.

You might want to think about installing a firewall app on your tablet like this one, 'Noroot Data Firewall'.

A firewall app allows you to allow/block both WiFi and mobile data connectivity for each app, on a selective basis. In this instance where you want to block specific apps from any WiFi connectivity while tethered but allow them on using your home WiFi will involve a somewhat involved configuration setup, it might just be easier to toggle your firewall on or off depending on when you're away or at home. But whatever the case, be sure to go into the app's Settings menu to set things up to suit your needs.

Can't guarantee this is on all Samsung's running 7 but it's on my S8. In settings, connections, data usage, restrict networks you can stop apps running in the background from using wifi data on specific networks. Although if you want to set it on an app by app basis I'd go for the firewall as above :)
