Help How to instal anti-virus/malware on already infected phone?

My Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini appears to have been infected.

A couple of weeks ago, over a period of maybe 36 hrs numerous calls 'fell-out' i.e. were cut off after say 1 minute or less.
I've noticed that the device has become quite slow over the last few weeks.
Yesterday there was a sort 'freezing' incident which I got round by switching off and back on again.
Over the last 24hrs battery life has been compromised somewhat.
Then today a screen intruded while I was browsing - saying the phone was infected, that it would be progressive, and advising a particular course of action ( I think it was telling me to download something, but am not sure cos I powered down immediately). It also said this was a result of visiting 'adult' sites, which unfortunately, I have done maybe a couple of times...embarrassing but true!

So, it remains switched off. I have researched and it would appear that either 'Lookout' or Norton offer good protection, among others - My question is, 'How to install something that will both deal with the apparent infection and offer future protection?

Thanks in anticipation....

Welcome to Android Forums.

If you have Clean Master or any other app from Cheetah Mobile installed ... uninstall them. They cannot be trusted and put out fake warning message.

Clear the history in your browser to get rid of the "warning" messages.
Do a Wipe Cache Partition deleting all temporary files and not touching permanent files, settings. or installed apps.
If the problem still exists reload into Safe Mode disabling all apps you added without uninstalling them.
If the problem goes away it is caused by an app that you added ... figure out which one.

Thank you Thom - I feel welcome...does everyone arrive with a crisis?

I'm aware of CM being a dodgey outfit, and thankfully don't have any of there stuff.

I'll get to youtube to figure out how to execute a WCP - you may have guessed I'm really only semi-literate in these matters :-)

Thanks again, will come back...

I should say that most of what you describe doesn't especially suggest malware to me. People are very quick to assume any odd behaviour must be a malware infection.

The pop up certainly doesn't indicate malware, more likely an ad script from your browsing (or a dubious app of the sort Thom mentions). The Android OS never pops up messages like that. Following the link in such a pop-up and installing the software is however very likely to infect your device (if you are lucky it would just be data-stealing junkware like CM Security, but it could be something worse) .

Thanks H - that is reassuring.
I'm fairly convinced it is/was a browsing issue, since I seldom download any apps.

Have cleared history from browser(s) and executed wcp (all by myself!) - and things seem to be in order...so far so good.

Thanks very much all
