Help How to install Amharic fonts

AndroJOB

Newbie
Hi

Recently I got me a Samsung Galaxy Mini and I like it, except for a minor issue in that it doesn't read Amharic/Ethiopic fonts (and a number of languages as well). I see that it doesn't install fonts readily as in a PC (pity, I don't think it is difficult to enable Android it to do so but I don't know why Google didn't do so).

I read somewhere that I have to root the phone. Can anyone tell me how I can install the fonts, without rooting if possible? If I have to root, can anyone tell me the procedures?

Thanks

To change font use font changer app... from market and it needs root access. Here is how you can root your phone..

Root Galaxy Mini Running Gingerbread 2.3.4 OS if you have gingerbread.

Root Galaxy Mini Running Froyo 2.2.1 OS, if you have Froyo.

:)
If you are talking about languages that the phone can't render read this...

Following the instructions on how to root looks relatively easy alright.

But I don't think Arial Unicode MS supports Amharic/Ethiopic. I have a ttf font that covers English and Ethiopic characters. Let's say that I have installed this font somehow. would it leave the English characters as they are while displaying Amharic with the newly installed font?

Also, can I root my phone (Froyo 2.2.1) from Ubuntu 10.10?

Okk.. you can do this rename the font that support Ethiopic --you said you have it -- to DroidSansFallback.ttf and then follow the steps given in the link below:

Also, I don't think it is possible to do with Ubuntu 10.10 --If possible also it will be very difficult as you have to do many things manually and using command line. You can use Universal AndRoot.apk to root it... It is supposed to root almost any Froyo smartphone.
