This is my 2nd attempt, last time my SD card wouldnt mount through Xrecovery then i had to run the update through SEUS to fix my phone.

So ive started from scratch updating my phone to stock 2.3 via SEUS, currently having problems flashing the AU generic kit, going to try different brands and flashtool versions until successful. The
http://androidforums.com/x10-all-th...m-installing-xrecovery-2-3-a.html#post3279172 thread has helped me open new doors, after reading/watching Tuts i know what needs to be done its just a matter of using the correct app & files. my goal is simply to install a custom rom and below are steps i'm taking, correct me if i'm wrong please.

1. upgrade to 2.3 via SEUS
2. flash generic kit
3. root phone
4. install busybox and root explorer
5. copy gb ready 0.3.zip to SD and open via root explorer
6. open and run xrec installer via phone
7. install custom rom via Xrecovery

is backing up really necessary to install the custom rom? or is it only for the purpose of saving your data?
do i need to flash the baseband for the generic kit before i root?

Update---
i skipped the 2nd step and managed to install xrecovery but once again when i try to install custom zip i get E:can't mount sd, i tried unmounting in storage settings, i don't know what else to try :S currently browsing for answers.
Im hoping there is a solution that doesn't involve adb shell. i have no idea when it comes to command prompt, even the dummy guide didn't help, the commands dont work for me

#2 is not necessary once you're on 2.3.3

Once you got xRec installed, did you do a complete backup of your rom using xRec?

Let's try a different method this time.....

First, let's make sure your sdcard is alright

As always, make a backup of your cards contents first.

Sometimes the file system on the card gets corrupted. It can happen for example if the card was ejected while a file operation on it was in progress.
You can attempt to fix it using the desktop windows' built-in chkdsk utility.
Open up command prompt (start->run->cmd.exe) and type
chkdsk /X /F <SD card drive letter>
My SD card reader is X:\ drive, so i wold use the following command:
chkdsk /X /F X:
SD card reader is recommended, but probably not necessary because it should also work with WinMo's built-in USB mass storage function or wm5torage.

Copy the backup you made of the card back to the card

Put the card back in your phone and go to settings/storage and see if it's recognized. Plug it into your comp and see if you can mount it. If that all works out proceed, if not, throw your phone onto the nearest freeway and get a SGSII :)

Hopefully it's working right....go ahead and keep your phone plugged in to ur comp and place the WB rom file on it......root ur phone and install xRec.

Reboot into xRec and attempt to install custom zip.....let me know what happens.
