Root How to install EXT4

A lot of people have been having problems getting EXT4 to work, me included. Finally got it to work tonight!

1. Download this file: ext4_recovery_kernels.zip
2. Extract it. Inside you'll find a file called recovery_ext.rfs some people say rename it. But don't.
3. Place it in the sdx/updates folder
4. Go into custom recovery. Go to file browser. then /sdcard/sdx/updates. Hit menu on the recovery_ext and home to confirm. It'll flash. Now back out to the main menu.
5. Go to console. Hit enter, then type ext4 (hold Fn to type the 4)
6. Reboot to recovery. This is where we all have problems. At the top it should say ext4. But for most of us we get a bunch of blue errors in the background.
7. Go to console, hit enter. Type "mount". (no quotes) Go back to the main menu by hitting home. (errors will still be there).
8. Go to console, hit enter. Type "mounty" (no quotes). Go back to the main menu by hitting home. Now the errors will be gone!
9. Don't leave recovery yet. repeat step 4 and then 5


You now have ext4!
 
i go to consle hit enter type in mount hit enter again press home
then go to concole again hit enter type in mounty press enter then home
but the error is still there???? what am i doing wrong
 
when you start you phone up after applying it did it freeze at the "transform" screen? its been at this screen for about mins
 
There's an easier way, I did this for both my phone and my gfs.

Always make a backup before you do anything!!! This is important because your going to have to restore your data/system after you ext4 it so that you don't lose anything!

1. DL the ext4_recovery.rfs into the update folder in SDX (you do not have to delete the recovery.rfs that is already there)
2. Boot to recovery
3. go to file browser and find the ext4_recovery.rfs
3a. Hit menu and flash the recovery
4. Hit back to you get back to the main screen and reboot into recovery
**Note* At the top it should say EXT4
5. go to console and push enter
6. type in "Ext4" without the quotes, it should reboot itself
7. go back to console and repeat steps 5-6 (this i'm not actually sure if you have to do, I just did it to be sure)
8. Apply your rom or apply the backup that you made prior to this.

and you should have ext4!!!

you said to type in mount and mounty... which you don't have to do if instead you simply manually reboot to recovery after flashing the ext4_recovery.rfs
 
Oh. Yeah. I had to type mounty to get it to work, even after rebooting. But maybe I messed up somewhere, whatever works though right?

I installed the clockwork mod and it killed my quad scores. I am going to install the puma kernel tomorrow morning and see if that bumps it up some. It is an upgrade to the crud.

It depends on your term of 'upgrade' but yeah. Puma has a lot of features on top of an already great kernel made by Joseph Mother.

My quads went down after i applied ext4 for the cache and data and ext2 for system, dont understand that lol

I test drove SD Increase and it didn't do anything for me. I did 3 quad scores right after reboot and got 508, 511, and 486. I had a 536 right before and a 493 after resetting back to 128 and uninstalling. I wish this did work though.
